Who's Mining the Mercantile?
or... If It's Counterfeit, Ware It Author(s):
Debbie Mcbeth Christiansen
Alas! Poor Sybil Bliss is forced to work in Marmaduke Welburn's Mercantile because her dear mother is suffering from (sniff) chronic crow's feet. She's working alongside her beloved Samuel Beauchamp, who is attempting to save up enough money to take care of Sybil and her ailing mother. Life for Sybil and Samuel takes an awful turn when Marmaduke finds a buyer for the mercantile. It's (gasp!) Ebeneezer Weed, a counterfeiting criminal. Ebeneezer's drooling lust for Sybil and easy access to dollars motivates him to purchase the store in a matter of seconds. As Ebeneezer and his comical half-witted assistant print money, Samuel risks all of his savings to buy a gold mine. Will Samuel make the discovery of a lifetime to save the day? Can he rescue Sybil from Ebeneezer's diabolic plans? Most important, will Sybil's mother be saved from chronic crow's feet? This one will certainly bring down the house! "This explodes with wonderful names, campy lines, and overplayed roles." Plays for Children and Young Audiences
